For the second consecutive quarter three of the top five natural gas marketers reported sales volume declines compared with the year-ago period, and 24 leading companies had total sales transactions of 127.06 Bcf/d in 3Q2011, an 8.54 Bcf/d (6%) decrease from the 135.60 Bcf/d they transacted in 3Q2010, according to NGI’s 3Q2011 Top North American Gas Marketers Ranking.

Purestream Technology has contracted with Whiting Oil and Gas Corp. to deploy its Avara System, which can process up to 2,000 bbls of flowback water daily, for a water treatment project in Mountrail County, ND, to support Whiting’s operations in the Williston Basin. The clean finished water will be returned for continued use in hydraulic fracturing. The Avara system was developed in partnership with Utah State University’s Energy and Space Dynamics Labs.
Near-Flat Mixed Pricing Mostly a Bit Softer
After gains Monday were followed by losses Tuesday, the cash market got back to somewhat of an even keel Wednesday with price movements that were little changed either up or down in most cases but a little softer in a slight majority of cases. Lows in the 30s and 40s would continue to generate a fair amount of heating demand in the Midwest, Rockies, Western Canada and parts of the South, but the rest of the weather outlook called for moderate to merely chilly.
FERC Says Kern River Can’t Force Contract Terms on Shippers
FERC has blocked Kern River Gas Transmission’s attempt to force shippers within the same class whose contracts are expiring to agree to renew for the same term or face higher rates.
