The U.S. Forest Service has issued a temporary special use permit for Atlantic Coast Pipeline LLC, a joint venture led by Dominion Resources Inc., to survey more than 17 miles of the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia for the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline.

Virginia could be looking at 1,600 MW of new natural gas-fired power in 2019 if a power plant project proposed by Dominion Virginia Power receives regulatory approval. The project, which is expected to cost more than $1 billion, would be located in Greensville County, VA.

Dominion Resources Inc. is buying Carolina Gas Transmission (CGT) from SCANA Corp. for $492.9 million. CGT owns and operates nearly 1,500 miles of federally regulated interstate natural gas pipeline in South Carolina and southeastern Georgia.

The backers of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, led by Dominion, have filed to begin FERC’s prefiling process for the 550-mile project, which would cost more than $4.5 billion and deliver Marcellus/Utica shale gas to Virginia and North Carolina.

Dominion Resources Inc. announced terms earlier this week for its midstream master limited partnership (MLP), which would own the Cove Point liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Maryland. Dominion said it expects to raise more than $400 million in an initial public offering (IPO).

Dominion is partnering with Duke Energy, Piedmont Natural Gas and AGL Resources to build the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, a 1.5 Bcf/d, 550-mile natural gas system that would move Appalachian Basin gas from West Virginia to North Carolina.

Flooded with natural gas from the Marcellus and stung by the demands of this month’s repeat appearances of the polar vortex, Dominion Transmission (DTI) said it will limit north-south nominations on its system beginning no later than Feb. 1, a decision that could have implications for drillers in the prolific shale play.
