New Mississippi Storage Facility Goes into Service

Caledonia Energy Partners LLC placed into service Tuesday a high-deliverability, multi-cycle storage field in northeast Mississippi with capacity to store 11.7 Bcf of working gas. The start-up came a day after FERC gave the go-ahead for the storage facility, which originally was a nearly depleted natural gas reservoir.

Falcon Holding Open Season at MoBay Storage Facility

Falcon Gas Storage Co. Inc. is holding an open season for 15 Bcf of high-deliverability, multi-cycle (HDMC) capacity at its MoBay Storage Hub, which would expand the project’s first phase to 27 Bcf of working gas capacity.

Transportation Notes

Effective with Monday’s Cycle 4 nominations, Destin removed a force majeure notice and said it was accepting nominations from all receipt points. However, due to the approach of Hurricane Rita, at 1 p.m. CDT Tuesday Destin said it was claiming force majeure again until further notice and would be unable to provide transportation services from offshore receipt points. Onshore receipt and delivery points will remain in operation, Destin said.

Transportation Notes

Destin reported reopening the valve on its export line at Main Pass 260 and was accepting Intraday 2 (cycle 4) nominations for Monday’s gas day. The pipeline had turned off the valve to offshore receipts upstream of Main Pass 260 at 3 p.m. Friday in preparation for the approach of Hurricane Dennis (see Daily GPI, July 11).

Because of high linepack, Southern California Gas declared an OFO effective with Timely Cycle nominations for Saturday. The LDC said it would assess Buy-Back charges in accordance with its rules and tariffs to those customers who delivered into its system more than 110% of their actual gas usage.

Southern California Gas declared an OFO on Timely Cycle nominations for Saturday. The tolerance for excessive deliveries into its system was 10%. The LDC said it would assess Buy-Back charges to violators in accordance with its rules and tariffs. A spokeswoman said the OFO also applied to Friday’s Intraday 1 nominations.

Southern Unit Buys 680 MW Florida Plant from Constellation

Southern Power, a subsidiary of Southern Co., has signed a purchase and sale agreement with Constellation Energy to purchase a 680 MW, dual-fueled simple-cycle generating plant in Cocoa, FL, for $206 million.
