Citing “excessive banking [of gas] over the last several days,” Kern River said Tuesday it is currently operating with high linepack that would negatively impact maintenance set for April 24-25. “It is imperative that operators take delivery of quantities that are scheduled immediately,” the pipeline said, adding that it will take corrective action if banking continues to be a problem. The maintenance, involving turbine inspections at the Muddy Creek and Fillmore Stations and valve replacement at the Opal Plant, was postponed from an original March schedule (see Daily GPI, March 9).

Otay Mesa Asks to Import Gas for San Diego Plant

To solve the question of where gas supplies will come from for its new generating plant in San Diego, the Otay Mesa Generating Co. LLC on Friday asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for authorization to build gas import facilities at the California-Mexico border to import up to 110 MMcf/d to fuel a 510 MWh station to be sited near San Diego (see Daily GPI, Oct. 12, 2000).

Pure Resources to Acquire Hallwood Energy for $268 M

Spring is not the only thing currently in the air, as merger and acquisition activity continues at the rapid pace set during 2000. Midland, TX-based Pure Resources Inc. and Denver, CO-based Hallwood Energy Corp. announced they have signed a definitive merger agreement in which subsidiary Pure Resources II will acquire all of the outstanding shares of Hallwood common stock at a price of $12.50/share.

MRT said Thursday it is not accepting any nominations thatcreate a short imbalance on its system, effective immediately.Currently short customers are expected to correct their position bythe end of the month and remain in balance. The pipeline remindedno-notice customers that they may change their no-notice option andallow storage withdrawals to eliminate any imbalance.

While major pipeline capacity additions for the Californiamarket will take at least two years, Transwestern Pipelinecurrently is looking at modifications that could contribute about50 MMcf/d “as early as next fall,” according to Enron PipelineGroup President Stan Horton.

Conoco subsidiary, Conoco Global Power (CGP) is selling a 50%stake in SRW Cogeneration Ltd. Partnership to subsidiaries of NRGEnergy. Currently, the partnership owns, and will operate a $260million power facility near Orange, TX, now under construction.

Allegheny to Acquire 1,710 MW From Enron

Allegheny Energy Supply LLC is currently in the process ofadding 1,710 MW to its ever increasing electric generationportfolio, the company announced yesterday. Allegheny Energy’sunregulated subsidiary reported that it has entered into adefinitive agreement with Enron North America to acquire three ofthe company’s natural gas-fired power generating facilities in theMidwest for an undisclosed amount.
