House Lawmakers, Director Put Focus on Hydrofracking

The Gasland documentary film continues to dog the footsteps of the natural gas industry (see Shale Daily, Feb. 16). The film’s director Josh Fox and actor-turned-activist Mark Ruffalo flanked Reps. Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), Rep Jared Polis (D-CO) and Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ) Thursday as they announced plans to reintroduce legislation to regulate the practice of hydraulic fracturing (hydrofracking) at the federal level.

Futures Unsteady Despite Inline 21 Bcf Storage Build

With storm paths and storage report technical difficulties dominating trading pit conversations Thursday, it’s no wonder that the September natural gas futures contract was mostly rudderless on the day. Despite an inline with expectations 21 Bcf injection for the week ended Aug. 10, the prompt-month bounced between $6.590 and $6.950 before finishing out the day’s regular session at $6.875, up 1.1 cents from Wednesday’s close.

Flat Cash Prices Ignore New Storms, Soaring Screen

Storms and screen-those were the two big “S” words thatdominated trader conversations Monday. Yet despite weekend lossesof South Texas production to Hurricane Bret, more tropicaldisturbances lining up in the Atlantic and a spectacular push bythe September Henry Hub futures contract to finish above $3, cashprices found themselves hard-pressed to do much more than standtheir ground. Except for some small upticks in the West, mostpoints saw little if any price movement.
