A continued overcapacity in land pressure pumping services, as well as no relief in natural gas pricing, will impact Halliburton Co.’s North American business again this year, CEO Dave Lesar said Friday.

Regulators with the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) said permit applications for oil and natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale are taking about four months to process — about three months longer than they should take compared with past permitting.

Houston-based contracting services provider Quanta Services Inc. has agreed to acquire privately held Price Gregory Services Inc., a natural gas and oil transmission pipeline infrastructure services provider, for cash and stock worth about $350 million. The deal is in anticipation of “substantial growth” in infrastructure development to support unconventional gas plays, Quanta said.

(BHI) last week said energy industry spending and drilling activity is contracting in North America as its customers adapt to a market “characterized by lower natural gas and oil prices, scarce commercial credit, ample natural gas supplies and reduced natural gas demand.” The pace of activity contraction, as measured by the rig count, has been faster than any other cyclical contraction post-1986, according to the oil services contractor.

ANR Pipeline Co. began a non-binding open season on Wednesday to determine customer interest in contracting for additional transportation capacity on its existing natural gas pipeline system to markets along the Lebanon Lateral in southwest Ohio. The open season will run through Oct. 11.
