KN Acquires Mexican Gas Interest

KN Energy International Inc. bought an interest in IntegratedGas Services of Mexico LLC (Igasamex), a Mexico City-based companythat is involved in helping Mexican industry convert to natural gasfrom alternative fuels – such as diesel, propane or fuel oil -through development of supply and transportation projects. It alsoprovides third-party inspection of pipeline construction, andprovides pipeline management services in Mexico. Terms of theacquisition were not disclosed.

KN, Devon Form Powder River Gathering Company

KN Energy and Devon Energy signed a letter of intent to formThunder Creek Gas Services and build a new $110 million, 126-milegas gathering system and associated facilities in the Powder RiverBasin of northeast Wyoming. The 24-inch diameter gathering systemwould extend between Gillette and Glenrock, WY, bringing up to 450MMcf/d of new production to connections with multiple downstreampipelines during the first half of 1999.

FERC earlier this week rejected Natural Gas Pipeline Company ofAmerica’s (NGPL) proposal to implement negotiated rates on itssystem, saying that such a move would be “premature” until it couldact on the pipeline’s proposed auction procedures that are pendingas part of a comprehensive settlement.

Lomak Petroleum and Domain Energy completed their merger andformation of a new company called Range Resources, which will havea 1 Tcf reserve base and $1 billion in total assets. The reservesare 72% natural gas with daily production at 9,248 b/d of oil andliquids and 161 MMcf/d of gas.

As part of a comprehensive settlement filed at FERC Natural GasPipeline Company of America (NGPL) has proposed implementing aninteractive auction process for posting and awardingtransportation/storage capacity on its system within less than twoyears. Although the settlement reserves five contested issues, allof the “active” parties have indicated their support for theproposal.

Tarragon Shareholders OK Acquisition

Shareholders of Canada’s Tarragon Oil and Gas Ltd. yesterdayapproved the indirect acquisition of their company by Marathon Oilfor an estimated $1.1 billion. Still, the final fate of the mergerwas up to the Ontario Court (General Division), which was expectedto issue a favorable decision either late Tuesday or today.

Amoco Has Cotton Valley Success

Amoco announced a gas discovery in the Cotton Valley Reef Trendnorth of Houston. The company said it expects to bring its No. 1 J.W. Vanderbeek on production this month. Amoco holds a strongposition in the Cotton Valley Reef Trend, with drilling rights inmore than 100,000 acres, primarily in Leon County. Amoco has acontract with Koch Midstream Services to use their pipelines in thearea to gather the gas for treatment and delivery to marketsthroughout the Texas Gulf Coast region.
