Futures Break Another Record, Prominent Local Sees $5.00

In a somewhat stunning show of bullishness, natural gas futuresprobed higher yesterday as funds and locals followed the lead ofcommercial buying throughout the last hour of trading. On its firstday in the limelight, the new prompt month, October, received thelargest boost of any contract at Nymex, leaping 15.8 cents higherto close at $4.801. In doing so, it set a new all-time high dailysettlement for a prompt contract.

FERC Closes Book on Changes to Order 637

At its final meeting before the August break, FERC last weekcleared its agenda of several major rehearing orders — includingOrder 637-B, which was a rehearing of Order 637-A, which was arehearing of Order 637. This time around the Commission refused tobudge on the majority of the policy calls it made in 637-A thataddressed regulation of the short-term natural gas transportationmarket.

Florida Gas Transmission said Thursday’s line break in its 22-inchmainline in Brazoria County south of Houston (see Daily GPI, June 23) had been repaired Friday morningand nominations at upstream receipt points had resumed with that day’sIntraday 1 cycle. Also, FGT lifted Friday an Overage Alert Day noticefor its market area.

Transportation Notes

Florida Gas Transmission declared a force majeure following aline break Thursday morning near Station 4 in Brazoria County, TX.The upstream MOPS, Danex MID Fields, HPL Magnet Withers, Live OakZella and Buckeye Burke receipt points were shut in until furthernotice, and affected shippers were given extended deadlines tore-source their gas. FGT Operations said Thursday afternoon itanticipated repairing the 22-inch mainline and returning it toservice by early this morning. The pipeline advised customers thatreceipt points upstream of Station 4 would become available fornominations during today’s Intraday 1 cycle.
