EEA Says Smaller Companies Drive 4Q Production Up

Smaller producers were the driving force behind a 1 Bcf/d increase in production during the fourth quarter of 2000 over the same period in 1999 according to Arlington, VA-based Energy and Environmental Analysis, Inc. (EEA). While many large producers reported smaller production results for the fourth quarter 2000 when compared to 1999, smaller companies were actually reporting increases.

Transportation Notes

A potential Sonat shut-in of gas behind Toca, LA processingfacilities over the holiday weekend (see Daily GPI, Jan. 16) was averted. Repairs werecompleted at Enterprise’s Toca II plant and it resumed operationsSaturday evening, the pipeline said. That means bothEnterprise-operated facilities and the Western-operated plant “are nowprocessing all of the gas upstream of the plants based on theirrespective commercial arrangements,” Sonat added. It encouraged “allparties to maintain arrangements that will keep the processing plantsoperating at the level necessary to process all gas upstream of Toca.”

Less than one day after the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio(PUCO) threw its support behind the NiSource/Columbia Energy Groupmerger, three groups of Ohio schools urged the commission to make afull review of the proposal. On Tuesday, PUCO authorized a letterto the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that statedthe proposed merger would have no impact on its ability to protectthe interests of Columbia Gas of Ohio ratepayers. However, theschools are not as confident.
