Williams Central Plans Expansion; Texas Gas Hooking Up 12 New Power Plants

Power generation growth is behind a proposed expansion of the Williams Central pipeline system, which received bids totaling 66,800 Dth/d during a binding open season that concluded last Monday. The pipeline is expected to file an application soon with FERC for the looping expansion. However, its sister pipeline, Texas Gas Transmission, has seen even greater generation growth and definitely will see new summer peak demand records this year if the summer is particularly hot, a Williams spokesman said.

CMS Exec Says Pipe Industry Stands Behind Integrity Rule

Testifying before the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Highways and Transit on behalf of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA), William J. Haener, executive vice president of natural gas for CMS Energy Corp., said that the interstate natural gas pipeline industry supports the development of a gas pipeline integrity rule but recommends longer time frames for inspection intervals. The congressional subcommittee is currently considering gas pipeline safety re-authorization legislation.

TradeSpark has proven it is not being left behind in the energy e-commerce battle with EnronOnline and IntercontinentalExchange (ICE). The electronic trading company reported that its energy trading marketplace, which is powered by eSpeed technology, has transacted $100 billion (notional value) in energy products since its launch in October 2000. The phenomenal growth is similar to that seen by EnronOnline in its first year of trading in 2000.

Richard Campbell, president since January 1997, will retire Sept. 30.
