Transco Files Proposal to Expand Service in Mid-Atlantic Region

The Williams Cos.’ Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line (Transco) filed an application at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Tuesday proposing to expand its system by an incremental 142,000 Dth/d of firm transportation capacity to serve growing natural gas markets in the Mid-Atlantic region by November 2012.

Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Co. LLC has filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to expand its system to provide 225,000 Dth/d to customers in Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi. The Mid-South Expansion Project is expected to be built in two phases. Phase 1 will provide 95,000 Dth/d of supply by Sept. 1, 2012; and Phase 2 will provide an additional 130,000 Dth/d by a target date of June 1, 2013. Transco said it has entered into binding precedent agreements for 100% of the increment firm transportation service to be provided by the project (see Daily GPI, May 27). The project, which Transco said would cost $216 million, involves the construction of 22.6 miles of pipeline looping on Transco’s existing mainline; a new 32,000 hp compressor station; 15,780 hp of additional compression at three existing compressor stations; and association facilities.

Expansion of Pine Prairie Storage Proposed

PAA Natural Gas Storage LP (PNG) has filed with FERC an application to expand its Pine Prairie Natural Gas Storage salt cavern facility in Evangeline Parish, LA. The proposal calls for the construction of an additional 32 Bcf of working gas storage capacity, including two new 12 Bcf caverns and the expansion of permitted capacity for caverns two through five to 12 Bcf from 10 Bcf each.

Consumer Unit Wants CPUC to Reject Smart Meter Plan

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) should reject Southern California Gas Co.’s (SoCalGas) application to spend $1 billion to upgrade nearly six million meters to advanced devices with two-way communication capabilities, according to the state’s Division of Ratepayer Advocates (DRA), an independent consumer advocacy division of the CPUC.
