The North Carolina Utilities Commission on Monday approved conservation programs proposed by Piedmont Natural Gas. The utility will be allowed to recover up to $1.275 million in rates to fund three conservation programs.

President Obama signed a memorandum last Tuesday that changes the course on a Bush-era regulation that allowed federal agencies to proceed with projects without consulting with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) about potential harm to endangered or threatened species and plants as required by the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

Futures Tread Water With Bears Still in Control

It appears the natural gas bulls aren’t even allowed to hold on to a shred of price rebound hope as the recent signs of a firming crude futures market were proved incorrect Tuesday by a more than $4/bbl drop. Faced with the economic recession, plenty of gas and a forecasted warm-up in temperatures, February natural gas futures traded a slim 12.8-cent range before closing at $4.503, up 1.3 cents from Monday’s finish.

FERC Upholds Remand Order on Cove Point LNG

FERC Thursday upheld its October remand order that allowed Dominion Cove Point LP and Dominion Transmission Inc. to complete an expansion of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal on Maryland’s eastern shore and associated pipeline facilities, while at the same time barring the delivery of additional regasified LNG volumes to Washington Gas Light’s (WGL) distribution system to shield it from further leaks.
