BIDC Acquires Southern States Gas Gathering

Bidder Communications Inc. (BIDC) said on Thursday that as part of its diversification strategy the company has acquired 100% ownership of Southern States Gas Gathering LLC of Louisiana. The acquisition gives BIDC entry into the southern energy resource market.

Amerada Hess Corp. reported it has acquired EEX Corp.’s 27.5% interest in the Llano Field located on Garden Banks Blocks 385 and 386 in the Gulf of Mexico for $50 million plus an overriding royalty interest of 1/2 of 1% for the first 100 million boe total production from the Llano Field and 1% on all production thereafter. Amerada Hess estimates that the Llano Field contains gross proved and probable reserves of 125 million boe. Amerada Hess currently operates production of over 130,000 boe/d from four fields in the Garden Banks area. The Llano Field is located 20 miles southwest of the Amerada Hess operated Baldpate compliant tower production facility. Amerada Hess said first production from Llano is expected to occur approximately 18 months after project sanction, which is expected to come in 2002.

KeySpan Acquires Westcoast Sour Gas Pipes for Rimbey Plant

KeySpan Energy Canada last week acquired all of Westcoast Capital Corp.’s interests in the Wilson Creek Express Pipeline and the Crystal Pipeline, which KeySpan said will complement its existing natural gas gathering and processing infrastructure. The pipelines gather sour gas from areas to the west and north of the KeySpan-operated Rimbey Gas Plant in Alberta.

Conectiv, National Fuel Acquire 80 MW PA Plant

NFR Power Inc., a subsidiary of National Fuel Gas Co., and Conectiv Mid-Merit Inc., a subsidiary of Conectiv, jointly announced last Tuesday that the companies have acquired an 80 MW combined-cycle, natural gas-fired power plant in northeastern Pennsylvania from NEPA Energy LP, a subsidiary of Welch Foods Inc.

Calpine said it acquired the development rights from Enron NorthAmerica for the 750 MW gas-fired Pastoria Energy Center planned forKern County, CA. The $500 million project was licensed by theCalifornia Energy Commission in December 2000 and construction isexpected to begin this summer. Energy deliveries are scheduled tobegin by summer 2003 in time to help meet Southern California’sgrowing peak summer power demand. “This project significantlyadvances Calpine’s $4 billion energy initiative to bring 8,000 MWof new generating capacity to the California market in the nextfour years,” said Calpine’s Vice President — BusinessDevelopment John King. Pastoria will be built about 30 miles southof Bakersfield on property leased from the Tejon Ranch Corp. Thefacility will feature three General Electric Frame 7FA gascombustion turbines in combined-cycle with two steam turbines,representing 750 MW of capacity.

Anadarko Follows Koch’s Suit, Settles Antitrust

An antitrust suit against Anadarko Petroleum Corp. and itsacquired subsidiary Union Pacific Resources (UPR) came to a closewithout a verdict less than one week after it had begun. Anadarkosettled out of court with American Central Gas Technologies Co.’s,a spokeswoman for Anadarko said. Terms of the agreement were notdisclosed.

Aspen Picks Up Old Dominion Gas Properties

In an acquisition that CEO Jack E. Wheeler calls “very strategicand synergistic,” the Aspen Group Resources Corp. has acquired 100%of Old Dominion Oil Corp.’s Anadarko Basin producing wells, leases,property and equipment, of which about 90% are natural gasreserves, in an all-cash transaction. Terms of the transaction werenot disclosed.
