A partnership led by Spain’s Repsol SA has clinched a contract with Texas officials to store carbon emissions offshore Corpus Christi in an area that covers more than 140,000 gross acres of pore space.

According to the project sponsors, the offshore carbon capture and storage (CCS) project would be near more than 35 million metric tons/year (mmty) of existing industrial emissions “within 100 miles of the storage sites,” and more than 20 mmty of “anticipated greenfield project emissions expected by 2035.”
