Yankee Energy’s board has named Michael G. Morris president andCEO, succeeding Charles E. Gooley, who died two weeks ago followinga long battle with cancer. Morris currently is chairman, presidentand CEO of Northeast Utilities and Chairman of Yankee EnergySystem. In addition, Dennis E. Welch was elected senior vicepresident, COO and director of Yankee Energy and subsidiaries.Welch, formerly vice president of environment, safety and ethics atNU, will run the day-to-day operations of Yankee.

Southern Energy Inc.’s Americas Group has named Pamela PierceCEO and president of its energy capital group, based in Houston.The group provides financing to the oil and gas industry fordeveloping, acquiring or refinancing proved or producingproperties, in return for rights to purchase output from theseproperties. Pierce, 45, joins the Southern Energy Americas Groupfrom Vastar Resources in Houston, where she has worked for the pastseven years. Most currently she was vice president of businessdevelopment.
