Nigeria is working to develop floating LNG (FLNG) facilities to further monetize the country’s huge natural gas reserves and avoid the sort of issues it’s had with a six-train facility onshore. 

Earlier this month, Golar LNG Ltd. joined Nigeria-based UTM Offshore Ltd. to develop an offshore liquefaction project after agreeing to new terms with state-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC).

Under the deal signed earlier this month, Golar and NNPC established a framework for the joint development of specific gas fields to feed potential FLNG projects. The deal contemplated using Golar’s Hilli vessel after the end of its Cameroon contract in mid-2026.
