Cheniere Energy said Thursday that it has teamed up with Morgan Stanley Capital Group to procure liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies that would be delivered to its four proposed Gulf Coast LNG import terminals.

Cheniere LNG Trading & Marketing Inc. and Morgan Stanley Capital Group Inc. will work cooperatively in negotiating with global suppliers to deliver supplies through the proposed LNG import terminals in Sabine Pass, LA, Corpus Christi, TX, Cameron, LA, and Freeport, TX (Cheniere owns a 30% stake in the Freeport terminal). The terminals Cheniere is building or in which Cheniere is a partner represent a total of about 10 Bcf/d of potential gas deliverability and storage capacity for 1.9 million metric tons of LNG.

Morgan Stanley Capital Group Inc gives Cheniere a strong financial partner with a large commodity marketing operation. The company is a direct, wholly owned subsidiary of global financial services company Morgan Stanley and is an active participant in global commodities markets, including electricity, natural gas, petroleum, and base and precious metals.

Simon Greenshields, managing director of Morgan Stanley Capital Group the company’s “relationships, financial capabilities and substantial presence in the domestic power and gas markets make us a logical partner for LNG producers seeking entry to the U.S. marketplace. Our relationship with Cheniere is intended to provide us access to premier receipt terminals in the Gulf Coast.”

Keith Meyer, president of Cheniere LNG Marketing, said, “We look forward to seeing our relationship with Morgan Stanley grow as we work together to achieve our company’s goal of fostering the marriage between North American natural gas demand and global LNG supply.”

Cheniere is building a 100%-owned 2.6 Bcf/d Gulf Coast LNG receiving terminal near Sabine Pass in Cameron Parish, LA, a 100% owned 2.6 Bcf/d receiving terminal near Corpus Christi, a 3.3 Bcf/d terminal near the Creole Trail in Cameron Parish and is a 30% limited partner in Freeport LNG Development LP, which is building the 1.5 Bcf/d LNG receiving terminal in Freeport.
