As a result of KN Energy’s acquisition of MidCon Corp. in lateJanuary, MC2 said it plans to turn its focus to retail natural gasand electric markets in western states in which its new parent doesa lot of trading.

KN Energy, through its KN Services’ subsidiary, has participatedin unbundling pilots in Wyoming and Nebraska. “That piece of thebusiness is going to become MC2‘s now,” said Sharon Hillman, seniorvice president of MC2, which is the retail marketing arm for thecombined KN Energy and MidCon companies. “Then we’ll be looking atother western states such as Oklahoma, which plans to open its gasmarket to competition beginning in 1999, and possibly Utah, Oregonand northern California.

Prior to the KN Energy-MidCon deal, MC2 had concentrated itsretail efforts in gas and electric markets between Chicago and NewYork.
