Australian labor unions working at the Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG facilities have served notice to Chevron Corp. that they intend to go on strike next week if a compromise over wages and working conditions can’t be reached before then.

The Offshore Alliance (OA), a partnership between the Australian Workers Union and the Maritime Union of Australia, said late Monday that limited work stoppages would occur periodically beginning Sept. 7 and escalate each week until workers’ demands are met. 

“Chevron’s bargaining efforts have been the most inept and incompetent performance we have seen to date from any of the outfits we have dealt with since the formation of the Offshore Alliance in October 2018,” the unions said in a Facebook post.
