As Enron Corp. fades slowly into history the trinkets and trappings that helped create the company’s forceful mystique soon can be had by even ordinary people.

At least, that’s the hope of Dovebid, a business auction dealer, which is staging the “first in a series” of Enron auctions from 7 a.m. PT on Wednesday to 5 p.m. PT on Thursday.

Billed as “the auction of the year,” the sale will handle “computer and telecommunications equipment, office furniture,” but there is a lot more to it than that.

Interested in the Enron “E”? It is scheduled for sale at noon on Wednesday, and is expected to bring thousands. There’s also a portable basketball system with an acrylic backboard and a “slam it rim” and a 30-inch by 48-inch black marble coffee table.

Electronics more your style? How about a 50-inch plasma monitor by NEC, Pioneer, Premier or Matisse Smart Technologies– new and still in the box? The auction has 23 waiting to be opened.

There are screens of every size and model, as well as television sets (some “new in box”), CD/DVD players, VHS recorders, digital receivers, speakers, hand-held communicators, scanners, printers, telephones and, of course, hard drives. Enron has a lot of those.

For those wanting that panache that an Enron logo might carry, the auction also features 18-inch sailing ship replicas, wooden replica Flint Lock hand guns, a box of 100 hacky sacks, plastic mugs, and “exposition trinkets” that once were given at trade shows, including calculators, key lights, plastic straws, golf flags, Nerf balls, leather pads, coolers, puzzles and of course, candy.

To participate, bidders may bid electronically, submit a proxy bid before the auction date or secure a bidder number at the physical auction site in Houston at the Radisson Hotel Houston Astrodome. Registration may be completed at www.dovebid.com. For more information, e-mail CustomerService@DoveBid.com, or call (800) 665-1042 between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. PT.
