Royal Vopak NV plans to expand its ownership in LNG import terminals and invest in capacity expansions at the Gate terminal as it expects Europe to shift to long-term supply relationships with gas exporters.

The company is planning to acquire a 50% stake in the Eemshaven liquefied natural gas import terminal in the Netherlands in a partnership with Dutch transmission system operator NV Nederlandse Gasunie.

Vopak’s Walter Moone, president of new energies and LNG, said the firms would partner on exploring ways to expand capacity at the 5.9 million metric ton/year facility and enable it to transition to hydrogen or ammonia imports.
