Legislation (SB 138) to advance a large-diameter natural gas pipeline to commercialize Alaska’s North Slope gas resources via liquefied natural gas (LNG) export passed out of the Alaska House Resources Committee Wednesday and is to be taken up by the House Finance Committee. Senate Bill 138 provides the framework for Alaska to become an owner in the Alaska LNG Project and move the project into the pre-front end engineering and design stage — designing the project and refining associated cost and engineering elements. The state Senate passed the bill last month (see Daily GPI, March 19).

Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline Inc. is holding a binding open season through May 7 for incremental firm service from existing/new receipt points to existing/new delivery points to serve markets that include Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas. The proposed expansion “further offers shippers impacted by this past winter an opportunity to mitigate future capacity shortfalls,” the pipeline said. Southern Star is also interested in receiving nonbinding bids for capacity.
