Jamison Cocklin joined the staff of NGI in November 2013 to cover the Appalachian Basin. He was appointed Senior Editor, LNG in October 2019, and then to Managing Editor, LNG in February 2024. Prior to joining NGI, he worked as a business and energy reporter at the Youngstown Vindicator, covering the regional economy and the Utica Shale play. He also served as a city reporter at the Bangor Daily News and did freelance work for the Associated Press. He has a bachelor's degree in journalism and political science from the University of Maine.

EIA Will Include Utica Shale in Its Drilling Productivity Report

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) will begin tracking oil and natural gas production in 20 Ohio counties and include those estimates in a new Utica Shale line-item in its Drilling Productivity Report (DPR) beginning on Aug. 11.

Ben W. Lupo, the former owner of Ohio-based D&L Energy Inc. and Hardrock Excavating LLC faces the maximum punishment for directing an employee to dump thousands of gallons of oilfield waste down a storm drain in Youngstown, OH that empties into a river. An investigation in 2013 led to Lupo, 64, being charged with violating the Clean Water Act (see Shale Daily,Feb. 19, 2013). He pleaded guilty in March (see Shale Daily,March 25). Prosecutors have recommended a three-year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is set for Tuesday (Aug. 5) at a U.S. District Court in Cleveland.

PDC Energy Inc. has agreed to sell its half-interest in a Marcellus Shale joint venture (JV) to privately owned Mountaineer Keystone Energy LLC for $250 million, leaving behind a dry gas program mostly neglected in favor of boosting its liquids production in other fields.
