Calgary-based Enbridge has launched a new company, Enbridge Atlantic Energy Services Inc., to sell natural gas commodity contracts to customers in New Brunswick. The company said last week that consumers who are considering the switch to natural gas for their heating needs now have more choices when purchasing their gas supply.

Based in Fredricton, NB, Enbridge Atlantic Energy Services began operations Sept. 4. The company will offer residential, commercial and industrial customers both variable-rate and fixed-rate one-year and two-year term contracts. Customers will be able to sign up for the contracts by mid-September directly through Enbridge Atlantic Energy Services Inc. In the coming months, customers will also be able to obtain information about the contracts through local heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) contractors.

“Our contracts will offer competitive prices and provide customers the flexibility to choose the type of contract that they are most comfortable with: either a variable rate contract that will reflect market changes or a predictable fixed rate,” said David Teichroeb, regional manager, Enbridge Atlantic Energy Services Inc. “By offering competitive rates and choice we will also help HVAC contractors better serve their customers when they discuss converting a furnace or water heater to natural gas.”

Enbridge Atlantic Energy Services said a one-year residential fixed-rate contract at today’s price with distribution charges included would save a gas customer approximately C$1,150 annually compared to propane and $600/year compared to home heating oil for their home and water heating needs.

The application for a gas commodity contract will also allow customers to choose to have Enbridge Atlantic Energy Services Inc. apply on their behalf for a street service permit from Enbridge Gas New Brunswick. Enbridge Gas New Brunswick provides natural gas distribution services but cannot sell natural gas directly to customers. Interested customers can contact Enbridge Atlantic Energy Services at (888) 644-4040 for more information.
