Enstor Inc., a unit of Iberdrola SA's Iberdrola Renewables, last Tuesday announced it expanded two of its natural gas storage facilities -- Caledonia in Lowndes County, MS, and Grama Ridge in Lea County, NM -- by more than 7 Bcf.

The high-deliverability, multi-cycle Caledonia facility has increased its maximum certificated working capacity to 22 Bcf from 16.9 Bcf, the Houston-based independent storage operator said. This effectively pushes the maximum daily withdrawal rate of the facility to 550 MMcf/d and the maximum injection rate to 558 MMcf/d.

The Caledonia facility is connected to Tennessee Gas Pipeline on its 500 Leg in Zone 1 and is in an area traversed by numerous new and existing interstate pipelines that access the Barnett, Woodford and Haynesville shale plays, according to Enstor. Tennessee serves gas markets in the Northeast, Southeast and Ohio Valley regions.

Grama Ridge -- which offers low-turn storage suitable for managing seasonal and operational needs in the Permian region -- has expanded its capacity by 2 Bcf to 9.5 Bcf, Enstor said. Enstor said Grama Ridge will complete an additional pipeline interconnect with Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America before the end of the year with an incremental 35,000 MMBtu/d of access to the Permian and Midcontinent basins. It has the potential for future expansion.

Grama Ridge is interconnected with El Paso Natural Gas in the Keystone pooling area and DCP Raptor Pipeline LLC, an intrastate system.

Enstor also owns a number of other storage facilities in the U.S. and Canada, including the Freebird Gas Storage facilities in Alabama; the Houston Storage Hub, which is under construction near Houston; the Katy Storage Hub, located 20 miles west of Houston; and the Waha Trading Hub in West Texas. It is part owner (57%) in the Alberta Storage Hub in southeastern Alberta.
