AGL Resources Inc. has closed on its $533 million acquisition ofVirginia Natural Gas, more than two months ahead of schedule andprior to the start of the winter heating season.

Completion of the purchase from Richmond, VA-based Dominion wasaccomplished after the Securities and Exchange Commission grantedits final approval. Dominion was required to divest the Virginiacompany, which serves customers in the Hampton Roads region ofsoutheastern Virginia, as a condition of its acquisition earlierthis year of Consolidated Natural Gas.

“The acquisition of Virginia Natural Gas represents an importantmilestone for AGL Resources to extend our capabilities into apromising new market,” said AGL Resources CEO and President, PaulaG. Rosput. “Our new customers in Virginia can expect a continuationof excellent customer service under the new ownership. AGLResources successfully bid for Virginia Natural Gas and announcedthe acquisition on May 8, 2000.

Henry P. (Hank) Linginfelter, a 17-year veteran of Atlanta GasLight Company, will be the new president of Virginia Natural Gas.
