With majority ownership in Denver-based Totem Gas Storage Co. LLC in hand following its purchase of ThermoEcotek Corp., AES Inc. plans to convert the gas field, a depleted “J” sand reservoir near Denver, into a 9 Bcf working gas storage facility. Totem would offer customers year-round storage service with delivery capabilities of more than 200 MMcf/d beginning in November 2002.

The high deliverability storage would have unique reservoir characteristics, allowing working gas to be cycled more than two times a year, compared with typical one-season seasonal service. An interconnection with Colorado Interstate Gas is in progress, and a future interconnection with Xcel is being considered.

Totem already has received approval for the project from the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, the Colorado Public Utilities Commission and Adams County, CO, officials. Construction is set to begin later this year, with injection service available by the second quarter of 2002 and withdrawals by the fourth quarter.
