Egan Hub Storage LLC has called on FERC for permission to put into service by mid-September additional storage capacity in its fourth cavern at its facility in Acadia Parish, LA.

Egan Hub, a subsidiary of Spectra Energy, has asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for the go-ahead to place into operation on or before Sept. 15 approximately 9 Bcf of interim capacity in the fourth cavern and an additional 8.5 miles of header pipeline. This would bring the header system to 16.5 miles. Egan is seeking agency approval by Sept. 3.

In July 2009 Egan Hub got the green light to place the fourth cavern into operation with an interim capacity of approximately 5.5 Bcf of the full certificated capacity of 10.5 Bcf that FERC approved in 2007 (see Daily GPI, July 27, 2009).

“Egan Hub will continue the leaching cycles for this [fourth] cavern…with the plan to place the full certificate capacity of 10.5 Bcf into service by Aug. 31, 2012,” Egan Hub told the Commission.

The fourth storage cavern project, which was approved by FERC in 2007, has working capacity of 8 Bcf (see Daily GPI, Oct. 19, 2007). It also entails the expansion of the capacity of Egan Hub’s Line 73 header system via the construction of the 16.5-mile, 24-inch diameter loop; a new meter and regulating (M&R) station that increases interconnect capacity with Texas Gas Transmission; an upgrade to the existing Texas Eastern Transmission (Tetco) M&R station; and associated interconnecting piping and other facilities.

The expanded header line, which begins at the Egan Hub facility and terminates at the Texas Gas M&R station, allows Egan to receive and deliver gas to liquefied natural gas takeaway pipelines in the region and to meet the increased demand for capacity at the Tetco and Texas Gas M&R stations, according to Egan Hub.

When completed, the Egan Hub site is expected to have more than 30 Bcf of storage capacity.
