DCP Midstream LLC (DCP) will “significantly” expand natural gas gathering and processing facilities in northeast Colorado to support growing production, the company said. The plan includes capacity additions to the Mewbourne and Lucerne processing plants, both located in Weld County.

The expansions will increase DCP’s processing capacity in the area by 80 MMcf/d to more than 400 MMcf/d. Along with the installation of new equipment, DCP will utilize existing sites, equipment and infrastructure contributing to an anticipated fourth quarter 2009 completion.

The company is adding about 40 MMcf/d of capacity at the Lucerne plant and 75 MMcf/d at the Mewbourne plant, said spokesperson Julia Emko. The Colorado Interstate Gas pipeline takes gas from both plants. She said DCP is just trying to keep up with all of the activity in the area. Depending upon the production profile of the region, DCP will consider where and how to expand its system, she added, noting that the system is connecting “hundreds” of wells per year.

In May Rockies Express Pipeline LLC (REX) said the final 210 miles of the Rockies Express West pipeline (REX-West) was put in service. REX-West is a 713-mile, 42-inch diameter pipeline running from the Cheyenne Hub in Weld County to Audrain County, MO (see Daily GPI, May 21).

DCP is based in Denver and operates in 16 states across seven producing regions. The company is a joint venture of Spectra Energy and ConocoPhillips.
