In issuing its updated March-April weather outlook Wednesday morning, MDA EarthSat Energy Weather said temperatures will be vary fairly widely over different regions of the United States..

MDA EarthSat said that while the Northeast could have some lingering heating demand at times during the month of March, it will still likely be warmer than March 2005, which was the coldest anomaly month for the 2004/05 heating season.

“This relatively consistent forecast for March is very similar to the current blocking pattern setup whereas the coasts see more frequent coolings and the Midcontinent sees more impressive and frequent warmings,” said Matt Rogers, deputy director and meteorologist at MDA EarthSat Energy Weather.

Rogers said April will likely bring warm temperatures to a majority of the country. “While the forecast has been adjusted slightly, the major themes are consistent this morning as the analog analyses continue to favor a warm April for the central to eastern thirds of the nation,” he said. He noted that April 2005 was very similar with widespread above normal temperatures.

MDA EarthSat added that this could be representative of a La Nina signature, but the forecasting firm acknowledged that La Nina is forecast to fade before the summer season.
