GreenMountain.com, a retail electricity marketer with a penchantfor things environmental, will plant a tree in honor of allPennsylvanians who use its “Tree-Free Billing” program —otherwise known as an Internet account.

The company, which is known for its focus on selling renewableenergy in Pennsylvania and California, has added clean burningnatural gas to its sales portfolio in the Keystone State, wherestatewide customer choice is due to begin in 2000. TheVermont-based company said yesterday it is now open for business tocustomers in sections of western Pennsylvania. It’s offeringcustomers a fixed price for two years.

“We have been encouraged by high levels of customerparticipation in the pilot programs and look forward to servingPennsylvania’s newly deregulated natural gas market,” said DavidBreitmayer, president of GreenMountain.com’s Mid-Atlantic region.”Our customers will get the same quality service, a two-year fixedprice and the satisfaction of knowing that natural gas is thecleanest burning fossil fuel available for their residentialheating needs.”

The company said it will encourage its gas suppliers to join theEnvironmental Protection Agency’s Natural Gas STAR program, whichis designed to prevent or minimize gas loss and improve theproduction, transmission and distribution systems of gas companies.GreenMountain.com is a major provider of renewable and cleanerelectricity. It serves more than 100,000 customers in Pennsylvaniaand California.
