Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) launched its newest
version of GasSelect, an automated gas scheduling and energy

delivery of 1 Tcf into Southern California for both SoCalGas and
San Diego Gas & Electric.
Columbia Energy Services (CES) will be closing its Canonsburg,
PA, offices as part of a restructuring of its retail marketing
operations. The reorganization will combine its major accounts
which are commercial and industrial customers with its mass markets
-or residential - operations. Some of the CES staff will be
relocated from Canonsburg to the Columbia Energy corporate
headquarters in Herndon, VA. The number of layoffs has not been
determined. There are 170 employees in CES retail operations,
including 57 currently in the Canonsburg office. The move is part
of a strategic reassessment of its marketing operations begun in
earlier this year.
Reliant Energy plans to construct a 460 MW, gas-fired power
plant in Osceola County, FL, near the town of Holopaw. Two-thirds
of the power produced at the plant will be sold to Seminole
Electric Cooperative Inc. through a five-year contract. The plant
will be called Reliant Energy Osceola and will be about 20 miles
southeast of Orlando. While it will primarily use natural gas for
fuel, the plant will also be able to produce electricity from fuel
oil. Reliant Energy and Seminole signed a contract in July for
about 306 MW of firm peaking capacity beginning Dec. 1, 2001.
