Xcel Energy has tasked Worley Ltd. with determining whether its U.S. natural gas pipeline network could inject and blend hydrogen into its system.

Australia-based Worley and consultant Advisian Ltd. are reviewing the systems for Xcel, headquartered in Minnesota. Xcel has natural gas infrastructure in Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin. It serves 3.7 million electricity customers and 2.1 million natural gas customers throughout these states.

“The potential that hydrogen has to support the energy transition will help Xcel Energy achieve its clean energy goals,” said Worley’s Oliver Morgan, global vice president of Midstream.
