Saying that it has no plans at this time to resume marketing electricity after a hiatus of several years, Xcel Energy’s ePrime subsidiary recently told FERC that it intends to relinquish its previously granted authority to sell power at market-based rates.

In a Sept. 9 filing, ePrime noted that it was formed to provide various energy services and to engage in the marketing of energy commodities. “However, for the past few years, it has focused its business on the marketing of natural gas,” the filing noted.

“Although it has had market-based rate authority, ePrime has not actually entered into any electric transactions for a number of years and currently has no active transactions,” ePrime told FERC. “Moreover, it has no plans to resume marketing electricity.”

The Xcel unit has therefore concluded that it would be appropriate at this time to give up its market-based rate authority for power sales previously authorized by FERC. According to the filing, ePrime is asking that the cancellation be made effective as of Sept. 1.
