Houston-based Wild Well Control Inc., an oil and gas well fire company, was called in Wednesday to help assist in controlling a fire at a natural gas well that blew out just after midnight Tuesday in Utah (see Daily GPI, Jan. 24).

The well, owned by Devon Energy Corp. and operated by Frontier Drilling, was secured late Wednesday, a Devon spokesman told NGI. However, there was no estimate given on when the blaze might be doused. No injuries were reported.

“Our primary focus is on safety, and Wild Well is going about its work very deliberately with the safety of individuals and the environment of utmost concern,” said the spokesperson. The drilling site is about a mile from Roosevelt, UT, in the eastern part of the state.

The spokesman reiterated Devon’s earlier statement that it would not speculate on how long the well fire would take to extinguish. Some well fires can go on for weeks.
