Natural gas futures struggled for bullish momentum in early trading Monday as strong production readings overshadowed an upcoming cold shot forecast for the northern Lower 48.

The November Nymex contract was off a fraction of a penny to $2.895/MMBtu at around 8:50 a.m. ET, while December was down 1.3 cents to $3.245.

Looking at recent fundamental trends, domestic production averaged 103.5 Bcf/d over the weekend, including volumes totaling 103.7 Bcf/d on Sunday, according to Wood Mackenzie estimates. The firm estimated output of 103.0 Bcf/d for Monday.

On the demand side, LNG feed gas totaled 13.6 Bcf/d for Monday, with power burns estimated at 31.9 Bcf/d, up slightly from the recent seven-day average of 30.1 Bcf/d, Wood Mackenzie data show.
