Union Gas, a member of the Westcoast Energy group of companies, said late last week that it is holding an open season for firm transportation between the Dawn Market Hub and its Kirkwall and Parkway interconnects. Union Gas added that this offering can help TransCanada (TCPL) shippers looking to meet expanding requirements at the TCPL export points of Waddington (Iroquois), Chippawa (Empire) and Niagara (National Fuel/Tennessee) by letting them source gas from the closest, most liquid supply point.

The company pointed out that with the Iroquois Pipeline recently receiving Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approval to expand its pipeline to take an additional 220,000 Dth/d of receipts at Waddington, a Union Dawn to Parkway contract, combined with a TCPL Parkway to Waddington contract, would effectively deliver the benefits of Dawn to Iroquois shippers.

Union Gas also said that incremental demand in the Dawn to Leidy corridor — through Niagara, Chippawa and including Empire State Pipeline, Tennessee and National Fuel — can be served with a Union contract from Dawn to Kirkwall and a TCPL contract from Kirkwall to Chippawa and/or Niagara.

“Shippers looking to serve expanding northeast demand through the growing Iroquois corridor or the Niagara and Chippawa corridors will be looking for flexible and accessible gas supplies,” said Bruce Rogers, director of sales & marketing for Union Gas. “The Dawn Market Hub is the closest, most liquid supply point for these shippers.”

Union said the Dawn Hub processes 12 Bcf of title transfers every day. Market activity at the hub has grown by almost 50% in 2001, making it the fastest growing market hub in North America.

Coinciding with the Union open season, TCPL if offering capacity to Waddington (50,000 GJ/d), Chippawa (30,000 GJ/d) and Niagara (30,000 GJ/d). The Union open season concludes Jan. 23.

Under terms of the open season, Union is seeking non-binding expressions of interest on firm transportation beginning Nov. 1, 2002 and Nov. 1, 2003. For more information on Union’s offering, visit https://www.uniongas.com/Business/S&T/services/longterm.asp.
