PHMSA, State Investigation Faults Williams NW Pipeline For 2014 Explosion

Federal and state pipeline safety regulators on Wednesday released the results of a joint investigation finding procedural shortcomings by Williams’ Northwest Pipeline Co. operators that led to an explosion and fire at a liquefied natural gas (LNG) peaking facility in Washington state two years ago (see Daily GPI,March 31, 2014).

Physical natural gas traded Wednesday for Thursday delivery added to Tuesday’s gains as healthy increases in the Gulf and Texas lifted soft pricing seen in the Midwest and Midcontinent. Only a few points slipped into the loss column, and most locations added either side of a nickel. The NGI National Spot Gas Average rose 6 cents to $1.96.
