Starting the new year on a giving note, Purchase, NY-based The New Power Co. (TNPC) offered Georgia residents who are 65 years and older in the AGL distribution area a new discounted natural gas offer of $0.609 per therm. This special one-year rate, available through Feb. 28, 2002, is on average 10% less than the standard rate offered by the state’s current largest gas marketer.

“There is a population of senior citizens in Georgia who, although they do not fall into the low income category, are on a fixed income,” said H. Eugene Lockhart, CEO of NewPower. “We already participate in the state-run low income offer for seniors, but with the onslaught of cold winter weather that just hit Georgia, we elected to make a special offer to all seniors, regardless of income level. We hope that by reducing prices for seniors, we’ll help them stay warm and healthy during the cold winter months at a much lower cost.

“NewPower continues to be committed to being responsive to the marketplace,” Lockhart continued. “We have earned the business of 180,000 customers in Georgia through competitive pricing and reliability.”

TNPC said the senior discount of $0.609 per therm is a guaranteed fixed rate offered on a one-year contract. In addition to AGL charges passed through on the bill, upon credit approval, a monthly service charge of $4.75 will be added to the usage rate.
