Texas Eastern Transmission resurrected an old war horse toprovide additional service to PECO Energy and new service to MobilOil’s Paulsboro, NJ, refinery.

The company has returned to service a segment of the WarEmergency Pipeline, originally built by the federal government tomove petroleum and refined products from Texas to Philadelphiashipyards during World War II. Texas Eastern was created when itbought the lines from the government after the war and switchedthem to natural gas service.

Restoration of the 20-inch diameter pipeline began at the end oflast year at a cost of $14 million. Work included testing,replacement of certain segments and reactivation of 21 miles ofpipe from Eagle, PA, to new delivery points near Hershey’s Mill inChester County, PA, and Brookhaven in Delaware County, PA.Reactivation of the line and construction of two new deliverypoints to PECO Energy will provide up to 120 MMcf/d of additionalfirm market area service for PECO Energy and 8 MMcf/d for Mobil.The segment reactivated had been inactive since being replaced in1974 by larger pipe to serve the Philadelphia area.
