People — Pamela Witmer, UGI

Pamela Witmer, who served on the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) for five years, has been named vice president of government affairs for UGI Energy Services LLC. Former Republican Gov. Tom Corbett nominated Witmer in 2011. Her term expired in April. UGI Energy is the natural gas marketing subsidiary of UGI Corp. Along with other utilities, UGI is working to advance the 1 Bcf/d PennEast Pipeline, which would deliver gas from Northeast Pennsylvania to a Transcontinental Gas Pipeline interconnect in New Jersey (see Shale Daily,Aug. 12, 2014). Witmer will represent the company’s interests before public officials and regulatory agencies, among other things. Prior to her time at the PUC, Witmer was head of the energy and environment practice at Pennsylvania-based public relations firm Bravo Group.

PUC Asks Why Closing Plants Didn’t Make Natgas Switch

As FirstEnergy Corp. prepares to deactivate two coal-fired power plants in southwestern Pennsylvania, the heart of the Marcellus Shale, the commissioner of the state Public Utility Commission (PUC) is asking lawmakers and company officials why more consideration wasn’t given to switching the plants’ source fuel to natural gas.
