GPSC to Discuss Resolution On Energy America’s LIHEAP Infractions

Finding itself in hot water again in the peach state, Energy America, Centrica’s U.S. retail gas marketing subsidiary, will have a proposed stipulation — aimed at resolving its Low Income Heat Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) problems — heard by the Georgia Public Service Commission (GPSC) on Tuesday (Jan. 6).

Murphy Oil said it has commenced production from its Medusa field in Mississippi Canyon Blocks 538 and 582. Medusa is located in 2,200 feet of water and consists of a spar facility capable of handling 40,000 b/d of crude oil and 110 MMcf/d of gas. Murphy is the operator of the field and holds a 60% interest with partners Eni Petroleum (25%) and Callon Petroleum (15%). Medusa has reserves of 140 million boe and is expected to reach peak production of 36,000 b/d of oil and 40 MMcf/d of gas.

Shell Plans LNG Import Terminal Offshore Louisiana

Shell US Gas & Power LLC announced plans Wednesday to build a deepwater LNG import terminal about 38 miles offshore Louisiana in about 55 feet of water. The terminal, which will be developed for service in 2008-09 by Shell subsidiary Gulf Landing LLC, will have the capacity to deliver 1 Bcf/d into the U.S. interstate pipeline network.

Houston Exploration Co. said Monday it would acquire the entire shallow-water Gulf of Mexico asset base of Transworld Exploration and Production Inc., which is 75% natural gas, for $155 million.

FERC Staff Reaches Gaming Settlements With Puget, PacifiCorp, Morgan Stanley, Reliant

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), Puget Sound Energy, PacifiCorp, Morgan Stanley Capital Group, Reliant Resources and Williams Power Co. have all had their names added to a growing list of companies that have signed settlement agreements with FERC staff, dismissing allegations that they attempted the manipulate the California energy market in 2000-2001.

The nation’s largest municipal utility, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), Friday filed a lawsuit against Houston-based Reliant Energy and its affiliates alleging breach of contract and conspiracy to drive up wholesale natural gas prices in the 1999-2001 period. The action was filed in federal court in Los Angeles.
