BP Report Claiming GOM at Pre-Macondo Condition Called Inappropriate, Premature

BP plc’s claims that the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) has returned to pre-Macondo well blowout condition are “inappropriate as well as premature” because the largest offshore spill in U.S. history still is being assessed, federal and state trustees overseeing the Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) said.

NERC Board OKs 13 New Reliability Standards, Changes to Three Existing Rules

The board of trustees of the North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) last week approved 13 new reliability standards and approved revisions to three existing standards. The standards cover seven critical reliability areas: vegetation management, facility ratings, transfer capabilities, reliability coordination, verification of generator capabilities, transmission and generation protection systems and undervoltage load shedding.

FERC’s Wood Lauds NERC Board’s Approval of Reliability Recommendations

FERC Chairman Pat Wood last Wednesday said that the board of trustees of the North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) “stepped up to the mat” last week when it voted to approve a set of reliability-related recommendations crafted in the wake of the devastating Aug. 14, 2003 blackout that cut across large swaths of the United States and Canada.
