Storage Injection, Revision Put Downward Pressure on Futures

Weeks after Halloween’s tricks and treats were gone, natural gas futures traders felt tricked anew Thursday on news of an upward revision in natural gas storage figures by the Energy Information Administration (EIA). News of more gas in storage than first expected along with Thursday’s report of a 16 Bcf build for the week ended Nov. 14 gave the bears the upper hand in morning trade as December futures pushed lower, ultimately settling at $6.316, down 42.7 cents on the day.

Enron Corp. founder Kenneth Lay and ex-CEO Jeffrey Skilling “lied over and over and over again” to investors and employees “through accounting tricks, fiction, hocus-pocus, trickery, misleading statements, half-truths, omissions and outright lies,” federal prosecutor Kathryn H. Ruemmler told a packed courtroom on Monday during closing arguments in the 16-week-long case that could send the two former chiefs to prison for dozens of years.

Prices Emerge From Weekend With Mild Increases

The cash market was up to its old tricks again Monday, ignoring a general lack of hot-weather support and a significantly weaker screen to post moderate gains. Most of the upticks were a dime or less. Rockies points, which had seen the largest declines going into the weekend, rebounded more strongly than others, but several Northeast citygates also saw dime-plus increases.
