Sabine Pass Liquefaction Receives Wide Support at FERC

Widespread support has been expressed at FERC for Sabine Pass Liquefaction LLC’s application to add a new liquefaction operation to its liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Cameron Parish, LA, transforming it into a “bidirectional facility” for the purpose of exporting LNG. Some parties, such as Chevron U.S.A. Inc., said their support was conditioned on Sabine Pass responding to a series of questions. A trade group representing municipal gas utilities lodged the only protest to the project.

High Gas Prices Have Entergy Louisiana Switching Power Plant to Coal

With natural gas prices significantly higher than they were a decade ago, Entergy Louisiana is looking to cut its utility customers a break by transforming one of its gas-fired power plants near New Orleans into a coal-fired unit. While coal-fired plants create more emissions, the cheaper fuel could end up saving the utility’s customers $150 million in fuel costs during the first year of operation, Entergy Louisiana said.

In a transforming deal, Newfield Exploration Co. plans to acquire substantially all of Stone Energy Corp.’s natural gas-heavy assets in the Rocky Mountains for $575 million cash. The assets, with proved reserves of 200 Bcfe and probable and possible reserves of more than 150 Bcfe, expand the independent’s reach in the Uinta and Williston basins and give it entry into the Green River, Powder River, Wind River and Northern Denver-Julesburg basins of Wyoming and the Southern Alberta Basin of Montana.
