Energy marketers involved in “wash” transactions were almost drowned last week with bad news, as investors bailed on their stocks and regulators called for a good soaping of the industry. It was a dreary week overall, but those taking the worst baths included Dynegy Inc., CMS Energy Corp. and Reliant Energy Inc. By the end of the week, at least three top trading executives at two companies had resigned and the weather showed no sign of clearing anytime soon.

Looking to pool resources on certain proposed natural gas and oil projects, Chevron Neftegaz Inc., an affiliate of ChevronTexaco, and Russian super major Gazprom announced the signing of a six-month binding memorandum of understanding that will allow the two companies to jointly undertake project feasibility studies in Russia and the United States.

TransCanada Teams Up with Petro-Canada on Quebec LNG Project

Undeterred after failing on two prior attempts to site liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminals, TransCanada Corp. said it has teamed up with Petro-Canada to develop an LNG facility, named Cacouna Energy, in Gros Cacouna, PQ, about nine miles northeast of Riviere-du-Loup. The proposed terminal would have average sendout capacity of 500 MMcf/d.
