Pioneer Reveals Exposure to Argentina’s Currency Devaluation
The currency devaluation instituted last Sunday in Argentina is expected to impact both the sales and costs of Dallas-based Pioneer Natural Resources Co., which has 17% of its oil and gas reserves in the South American country. The company expects it will likely recognize non-cash charges to reflect the impact of the peso devaluation, but it is too early to assess what those charges may be.
Argentina Currency Devaluation Impacts Energy Industry
Argentina’s economic “restoration plans” that include a devaluation of the currency announced last Sunday will impact a number of companies with operations in South America, including Sempra Energy, Duke Energy and other private-sector investors in utility and energy projects in South America’s third largest economy. San Diego-based Sempra with 43% stakes in two Argentine natural gas utilities Monday said it was closely monitoring the situation and assessing to see if the potential impact on future earnings would be enough to warrant a formal announcement.
Williams’ Wadlington Dies of Cancer
Cuba Wadlington Jr., president and CEO of Williams’ gas pipeline division and executive vice president of Williams, died Sunday in Tulsa of complications related to cancer. He was 58. From 1995-99, Wadlington served as senior vice president and general manager of Williams’ Transco natural gas pipeline system. From 1988 to 1995, he served as senior vice president and general manager of Williams Western Pipeline Co, executive vice president of Kern River Gas Transmission Co. and director of Northwest Pipeline Corp. and Williams Western Pipeline, all affiliates or subsidiaries of Tulsa-based Williams.
