The spate of colder weather in the Midwest and Northeast that had generated upticks at nearly all points in the previous two days began to lose its price-boosting ability Thursday. Only the Northeast, where high temperatures are predicted to stay at the freezing level or below Friday and into the weekend, continued to see substantially higher prices Thursday. Except for small gains at a couple of scattered non-Northeast points, the rest of the market was flat to just a tad softer.

Mild Cold-Induced Rally Expected to Be Brief
It was mild, but a rally nonetheless. With a new spate of cold weather approaching the Midwest and Northeast, prices ranged from flat to up about 15 cents Tuesday. Not counting the Southwest basins, the West saw most of the flat to barely higher or lower numbers.

Futures Unable to Test $6.00 as Profit Taking Weighs on Prices
A spate of selling followed Thursday’s runaway 36-cent screen rise, as traders took profits ahead of the weekend and July natural gas futures sank 13.6 cents to close at $5.805 Friday. Meanwhile the 12-month strip slipped 8.4 cents to close at $5.821. At 60,140, estimated volume was weak.
