Cash Turns Sharply Downward in Storage Report Reaction

As NGI sources had predicted, the bearish revision of storage data Thursday and the screen’s negative response had their cash impact Friday. Weekend prices sank in double-digit amounts at all points, with most declines measured at about a quarter or more.

As NGI sources had suspected the day before, the cash market couldn’t keep rising indefinitely without visible means of support. Sure enough, eastern prices finally reacted Thursday to the one-two punch of weakening futures and only a modicum of weather-related demand by registering declines that were mostly in the vicinity of a dime but ranged from about a nickel to a little more than 20 cents.

In another trading day characterized as quiet by sources, cash numbers were about flat to nearly 30 cents higher Monday. However, only CIG achieved the approximate 30-cent increase; other gains were capped at around a dime, and a majority of points were up by about a nickel or less.

The company announced that the Z2 well on the Green Ranch Prospect located in Stephens County has been successfully tested and appears to be a “major new gas formation” discovery.
