Opponents Blast Nebraska Keystone Report

A Canadian study published last week that raised public health concerns about oilsands solidified some opponents of TransCanada Corp.’s Keystone XL oil pipeline, which would carry oilsands production from Alberta. Opponents blasted a separate report by Nebraska’s Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to reroute the pipeline through the state.

Natural Gas Futures Hit $6 on Cold-Induced Rebound

With another dose of winter storms and chilly temperatures for much of the country set for later in the week, January natural gas futures — which expire on Tuesday — rebounded on Monday to put a six in front of a prompt-month contract’s price for the first time in almost a year. The contract notched a $6 high in afternoon trading before closing out the regular session at $5.990, up 34.7 cents from last Thursday’s close.

Futures Rebound Has Traders Questioning Bearish Turn

Coming off the holiday weekend, traders who once thought last week’s technical weakness solidified a bearish case are now being forced to rethink their outlook. April natural gas futures on Monday traded as high as $9.400 before settling the day at $9.329, up 26.4 cents from last Thursday’s close.

Rising Thermometer Levels Give Lift to Gas Prices

Gradually strengthening hot weather fundamentals solidified the post-weekend price rally Tuesday, putting all points into the rising column and creating larger gains than the day before in the Gulf Coast, California and Rockies. Upticks ranged from about a nickel to 20 cents.
